Because students who are planning to pursue admission to a professional program have great deal of freedom when it comes to choosing an undergraduate major, Pre-Professional Advising is provided to students separately from the Academic Advising provided by the department of a student’s declared major.
Students planning to pursue a health profession work with specially-trained health professions advisors in one of two offices on campus, determined by the specific health profession being pursued.
- The PreMedical and PreDental Advising Office has information for students planning to apply to Medical, Dental, Veterinary, Optometry, and Podiatry programs.
- The Office for Academic & Pre-Professional Advising has information for students planning to apply to Nursing, Pharmacy, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Physician Assistant, Dental Hygiene, Medical & Research Technology, and other allied health programs.
Students planning to apply to Law School, or who wish to pursue employment in law-related areas, will want to work with the Pre-Law Advising Office, which coordinates the Pre-Law program. Molly Timko (mtimko@umbc.edu) currently serves as UMBC’s Pre-Law Advisor.
