Admitted Students

Welcome to the UMBC Community!

Your responsibilities as a UMBC student begin long before you attend your first class. To help give our students a head start, the CNMS Advising Staff has created two “to-do” lists for students.

In order to have the best possible experience while building your first UMBC schedule during the Advising and Course Registration part of your Orientation & Course Selection Day, start working on the “Before” list as soon as you’ve accepted your admission to UMBC. Some items are time-sensitive (e.g., online Placement Testing only occurs during certain times), while others are more flexible (e.g., gathering syllabi from any out-of-state math/science coursework that you are transferring).

The “After” list is designed to help you set yourself up for a successful first semester, and to prevent problems from cropping up during registration for future semesters.

If you are a transfer student from a Maryland Community College who will not have finished your Associate’s Degree requirements before you begin your UMBC classes, we encourage you to investigate the opportunities offered by UMBC’s reverse-awarding of the Associate’s Degree program, Credit When It’s Due.

You may also want to take a look at our Terms to Know section, to familiarize yourself with some of the language that UMBC faculty and staff use.
